Ideas for holidays, weekends and trips in Fougères and its surroundings

Fougeres is packed full of activities and sights that will make your visit extra special. Why not visit the medieval Castle of Fougeres, built around 1000 to protect the town from invasion. The Belfry of Fougeres was the first to be built in the region of Brittany, and is classified as a historical monument. The Victor Hugo Theatre is also an interesting option. This beautiful building was originally built in 1886 and has recently been restored. Or stroll through the streets and try to spot the'trompe-l'oeil' wall paintings which adorn the sides of many buildings, especially in the Rue du Tribunal where the image is of the town itself! Enjoy the medieval quarter of Fougeres and take a look at the oldest house in the town, the Savigny House. Why not admire the Saint-Sulpice Church, which was built in the 11th century. Get a little closer to nature at the Chenedet Recreation Centre, based in the Fougeres Forest, where you can enjoy water sports, mountain bike rides, horse treks and much more. Fougeres has a great variety of events taking place all year round. The Coquelicot café and bar regularly has live music and the Juliette Drouet Cultural Centre hosts a range of speakers and artists. Don't hesitate to ask for recommendations at the Hotel Restaurant Campanile Fougeres.
